Since the Phoenicians were known to be seafaring traders, it's probable that they descended from Javan's family line (a son of Japheth). It's believed the Greeks and Romans borrowed their ship designs from the Phoenicians. After all, they too came from Japheth's line. It's also quite probable that the Vikings also descended from Phoenicians.

Phoenicians developed outposts along the course of their sea routes. One of the most well known was Tarshish, in southern Spain.
Both Genesis 10:4 and 1 Chronicles 1:7 called Tarshish as a son of Javan, the great-grandson of Noah.
