Judah, otherwise known as the Southern Kingdom, was primarily composed of Jacob's line through his son Judah.
Abraham > Isaac > Jacob (aka Israel) > Judah

King David consolidated much of the area we know as the Middle East into his kingdom. But, followers of his predecessor, king Saul, split to form the Northern Kingdom of Israel. The kings of Judah were comprised of David's grandsons ruling from Jerusalem, after his son Solomon lost control of the kingdom through compromising his faith in God alone.

As punishment for turning their back on God, He allowed the Babylonians to carry them into captivity until Cyrus the Persian defeated them.
