Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah, was called one of the major prophets. Jeremiah prophesied the fall of Jerusalem and called the people to repentance. There are 2 males named Hilkiah listed in 1 Chronicles 6. Both came from the Levite line of Aaron. So, if either of these were indeed Jeremiah's father, then either Azariah in 1 Chronicles 6:13 or Amaziah in 1 Chronicles 6:45 would have been his brother.
Throughout the Book of Jeremiah, he tried to persuade the people to turn back to God - to no avail. His calls to repentance fell on deaf ears resulting in the Babylonian captivity.
Jeremiah 21 mentioned Nebuchadnezzar of the Babylonians attacking while Zedekiah was king. This was also reported in 2 Chronicles 36 starting in verse 10. The other kings of Judah (also stated in 2 Chronicles 36) during this time frame were scorned in Jeremiah 22. Jeremiah 24:1 revisited the exile of Jehoiachin, king of Judah, to Babylon while the period of captivity was stated as 70 years according to Jeremiah 25. This chapter also prophesied that Judah's enemies would also suffer, starting in verse 15. Jeremiah's life was threatened in Jeremiah 26.
In both chapters 28 and 29, Jeremiah responded to the false prophets that God would punish them for giving false hope and merely telling the kings at those times what they wanted to hear. He encouraged those in exile in Babylon to live their lives in peace in their temporary residences until God saw fit to return them. In chapter 30, he foresaw the restoration of Israel.
