Scythians, as the Greeks called them, were said to be horseback nomads from the region of modern-day Iran. The Holman Bible Atlas (ISBN: 978-0-8054-9760-1) refers to the Scythians as being related to Ashkenaz, who was a son of Gomer listed in Genesis 10:3. This makes them from the line of Japheth, who the Greeks also come from.

Only one Biblical reference to Scythians (Colossians 3:11) verifies their existence although they are said to be part of a joint effort with Cimmerians to dismantle the Assyrian Empire. Colossae resided in Asia Minor which was also effected by the rampage of the Scythians & Cimmerians through this region as the Assyrian power dissappeared.

As this image shows, they still lived in the area of Asia north of the Black & Caspian Seas as the Persian Empire was expanding before going head to head with the Greeks.

Considering they are mentioned in the New Testament, some still existed during the Roman rule of the Middle East.
