During the book of Numbers, Amalekites were said to live in the Negev (desert) in Numbers 13:29. Judges 3:13 - Eglon of Moab subdued Israel with the help of the Ammonites and Amalekites. There is mention of Amalekites in Ephraim's territory during the time of the judge Deborah in 5:14.
In the time of Gideon, the Amalekites and others raided Israel as mentioned in Judges 6 and 7. Judges 10:12 recalls how God saved Israel from their past foes. While evading Saul among the Philistines, David raided the Geshurites, the Girzites and the Amalekites (1 Samuel 27:8). In 1 Samuel 30, David rescued his 2 wives from the Amalekites and sent plundered spoils throughout Judah.
